Popular Men Who Were Originally Women
The story of Andreas/Heidi Krieger might actually be considered a tragedy with a happy ending. Andreas Krieger was born as Heidi Krieger on 20 July, 1966. He is a German former shot putter who competed on the women's East German athletics. Andreas was unknowingly doped with anabolic steroids by East German officials and later he went through a sex change. Andreas told in interview that he is glad that he became a man. The "Heidi Krieger Medal" named after Krieger, is now awarded annually to Germans who combat doping. He even has a wife! Krieger is happily married to a former East German swimmer Ute Krause, who was also a victim of massive doping by East German sports officials.
